MSK-certified radiologist Sepideh Moayed has experience treating patients with chronic pain through mind-body medicine. She uses state of the art diagnostic imaging results from MRIs. CT scans, ultrasound and nuclear medicine imaging to help patients prevent chronic diseases or mitigate their symptoms in the long run. Specifically, Dr. Sepideh Moayed uses high-resolution Chest Computed Tomography (CT) scans to help patients quit smoking, prevent emphysema/COPD and avoid various chronic diseases associated with cigarette smoking such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. CT scans of the chest, known simply as Chest CT, use special x-ray equipment and high medical imaging to diagnose the cause of chest problems and other related diseases. Lung cancer-causing tumors appear on CT scans much earlier and more clearly than they would on an X-ray, enabling doctors and surgeons to act quickly since an early diagnosis of cancer increases patients’ chances of survival. In addition, Chest CT is used to treat and diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This disease is debilitating especially among people who smoke and/or are regularly exposed to air pollution. Chest CT scan does this by locating signs of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including pulmonary hypertension. Furthermore, Chest CT helps diagnose bronchitis, emphysema and other infectious or inflammatory diseases of the lungs and the airways. High resolution chest CT can detect the so called “ground-glass” appearance of tumors sometimes several months to years before the patient becomes symptomatic. Disease prevention is far more effective than late-stage treatment. Disease prevention serves patients, physicians, communities and can significantly reduce the pubic burden of morbidity, mortality and towering healthcare costs.
